What I'm Wearing

made via Polyvore

And for tonight...
made via Polyvore
My ultimate going-out accessory would have to be MAC false eyelashes. So glamorous! And so easy - when you're wearing lashes you don't need to bother with too much else in the way of make-up, and will still look dressed-up.

Inspiration This Week

Wow have I been busy lately! So much so that blogging has been the last thing on my mind - there go my 'blog goals'... Oh well, I'm trying to get better. I also just remembered I haven't even uploaded the remainder of my 30 Days of Lists. They're coming, I promise.

In the meantime, I would really like to share a photographer that has been inspiring me big-time lately.
Luke Byrne is from Adelaide, Australia. He takes truly inspirational images using a mixture of film and digital photography. Some of my favourites:

List Nine

This list was really hard to write, because I follow so many awesome websites and I just couldn't narrow it down! In the end I decided not to include personal blogs, and that shortened the list somewhat. Basically, this is a list of the blogs and websites I check every day, and that i get really excited about if I see a new post.

While writing this I also updated my blogroll, so check that out for more awesome and inspiring sites! ( That was also on my "blog to-do list", so check that off the list!)

The links for the list are:
I highly recommend all of them!

I made red velvet cupcakes in the weekend. I basically love making them because the recipe calls for baking soda and vinegar together. If you remember primary school science and making 'volcanoes', this makes a great frothy reaction - very exciting! Also - unlike the volcanoes - the end result tastes good and is very cute with a swirl of buttercream on top. A win-win recipe really!
(although, as you can see from my picture, the mixture pulled away from the casings as it cooled for some reason, leaving weird craters)

Hmmm, so I kinda suck at blogging... I actually really love it, and even compose posts in my head when I'm doing other things like working,  but I'm so slack at times that I just don't get around to posting it to the internet! Hence the fact that this list is at least a day late - I don't even know anymore! But this list is my declaration/wishlist of what I want to do with this blog. Bear with me while I muddle through with my lack of organisational and technological skills...
And here is (I think) today's list too:

I've seen a lot of other blogs do a 'what's in my bag' post, and I always really enjoy them. Although it does feel kinda like snooping through someone's stuff - I'm curious, I guess! This list was really fun to do too, I just dumped all my junk on the table and attempted to sort it into some semblance of order. I did discover that I carry a lot of pens and lipglosses - I'm sure one of each would do...
What do you always have to have in your bag? Have you ever done a 'what's in my bag' post? I'd love to see it if you have! Also, let me know if you're participating in 30 Days of Lists, I love looking at how everyone differently interprets the prompts and displays them in their own way.

Ah, technology - you strike again!

At the moment I seem to be completely unable to upload pictures to this blog - making it impossible to post my contributions to 30 Days of Lists that I have been working hard on. How very frustrating!  So I shall have to promise to post them at a later date and simply give up on them for today.

I'm sure I'm looking forward to more things than this - I make a point to always have positive things in the future to think about - but these are what immediately spring to mind today.
Join in the challenge at 30 Days of Lists. If you do, let me know so I can check out your lists!

30 Days of Lists: List One

Inspired by these awesome posts by the super talented Bianca at Goodnight Little Spoon, I have decided to start the 30 Days of Lists challenge! I'm kinda late starting, as the challenge started on the first of the month, but I'm so excited about it that I didn't want to wait until next month to start on the first!
It was hard to decide whether to create these lists in a collage journal form by hand or on the computer, but I decided I needed to get more comfortable with digital scrapping and that kind of thing, so this seemed like the perfect time.
The first list was "A Few Things About Yourself". This is my creation, and hopefully the first of many:

I hope these lists will help me get used to using the computer to create things as opposed to my hands! I also want to use the challenge as an opportunity to be more open and personal on this blog... so something I have been thinking about for a while but have found hard to put into practice. Also, I just love writing lists.
I definitely recommend checking out the 30 Days of Lists blog HERE, as that's where they post the daily challenge. They also have some great examples of other participants' lists for interest and inspiration. Yay, lists are so fun! Plus it's a great way to learn stuff about your fellow bloggers!

Inspiration This Week

I'm so inspired by Anna Inghardt. Her pictures are so very light and sweet and dreamy... I could spend ages scrolling through her photostream. Beautiful!

What I'm Wearing

I'm getting a bit of a 'businesslike' vibe off my outfit today - must be the shirt and blazer combination.

I went shopping for my younger sister's birthday present this afternoon. She's generally pretty hard to buy for but today I found a perfect book for her:

The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories. It's written and illustrated by Tim Burton (of Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride fame), and is absolutely sweet and funny - if a little macabre...
I just think it is so cute!

I would also recommend checking out Tim Burton's website. It's like walking through an animated art gallery - so fun!

Comic Relief

How cute is this photoshop action that turns your picture into a comic?! I just love the detail on the plate and the edges of the tablecloth. Found here.
PS: check out the rest of my Project 365 photos on my flickr if you're interested - I'm uploading them in batches.

"What I'm Wearing"

What I'm wearing - Polyvore
Polyvore is so much fun! Excuse my while I play around... I know a lot of blogs that I read do a "What I Wore" or daily outfit post of some sort - maybe this is my version of that. This is what I am wearing at the moment. I had uni this morning, and had lunch with my friend after. Apart from that, I've been sitting around home doing a bit of course work, a bit of blog reading, a bit of nothing... A very relaxing afternoon. It's also raining and grey here, hence the boots and cardi.

Inspiration this Week

I've decided to try out a new project on this blog. The aim is to encourage myself to blog a bit more, as I've been pretty slack with the whole blogging thing. So every week (at least that's the plan...) I will be sharing what is inspiring me or catching my eye. So.... presenting: Inspiration This Week Part 1!

Lovely, lovely photoshoot with Kirsten Dunst for Boy by Band of Outsiders. So beautiful and ethereal.

I made meringues for the first time over the weekend. It was much easier than i thought it would be - much easier than pavlova! I used the old Edmond's cookbook recipe which had baking powder in it. Plus it only used two egg whites, which is much less than a lot of recipes, so it didn't leave me with heaps of wasted egg yolks. They were definitely a success, if I do say so myself!

Here's my version of the the recipe I used:

2 egg whites
6 tablespoons sugar (caster sugar is best)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3 drops food colouring (optional)

Preheat oven to 140 degrees Celcius (275 F). Beat egg whites until quite stiff, then add half of the sugar and beat again. Add the remainder of the sugar and beat in. Add baking powder, beat, and then add food colouring. Add more food colouring than the colour you want because the colour fades in baking.
Cover a large tray in baking paper.
I then cut the corner off a plastic sandwich bag and attached my largest icing tip to it, securing with a rubber band. Fold over the top of the bag and spoon in the meringue mixture. Firmly squeeze the mixture out in one spot, gently lifting and tapering the end to create a 'gem'. Make them small and spaced out as they expand when baking. Bake in oven for about 45 mins or until swelled and hardened.

Voila! Easy, no?
Serve with whipped cream and raspberries. Yum!

Welcome to 2011

I just can't believe it's a week into 2011! Time goes fast when you're busy I guess...
One thing that has been keeping me busy is my new years resolution: I have tentatively committed myself to take part in a 365 photo challenge - basically, taking a photo a day for a year. I am hoping that Project 365 will help me to become a better and more creative photographer, and help me get used to my latest purchase - a Nikon D5000! It is my first dSLR camera, and as such is taking some getting used to - the possibilities seem endless and I am still tentative even taking it off auto mode.

Anyway, I have been semi-diligently taking pictures every day this year - although it is harder than i expected just to remember to take a shot some days. My pictures are uploaded to my flickr stream here, so take a look! Here is a sampling of the first few days:
